Who We Are

Safe Families for Children (SFFC) of West Central Minnesota is committed to protecting children and preserving families by surrounding them with caring and compassionate community. When crisis hits a family, there are many in our communities who do not have informal or family like support when facing crisis situations and challenging circumstances. This is why we exist. Safe Families helps keep children safe while supporting parents with resources and services to resolve the crisis.

Our goal is to engage families via faith communities to build a network of volunteers equipped to support families according to their unique needs. Our West Central Minnesota chapter launched in October 2020.  We are based out of Alexandria, MN and serve the surrounding communities in the West Central region. We currently have more than 80 volunteers directly involved with hosting children, loving on families, meeting resource needs, coaching parents, and mentoring. The SFFC team – host family, family friends, family coaches, and resource families – wrap around the families to provide a circle of supportive, caring community. Our goal is to strengthen, stabilize, and help keep families together!

Who We Serve

When crisis strikes, many of us rely on family and friends for support and encouragement. For some parents, this is not an option. Crisis can look like homelessness, unemployment, hospitalization, domestic violence, incarceration, complicated pregnancy/delivery, divorce or separation, medical emergencies, and substance abuse treatment. Our network of trained volunteers offer support, based on that individual family’s needs which often involves providing a loving, temporary care for children while parents deal with their crisis and get back on their feet.

Our main objectives are family support and stabilization, preventing abuse and neglect, and deflecting children from unnecessarily entering the foster care system. If you need support or have questions about intake, please call or text  218-671-3224

Office hours are Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm.
